Buxton Opera House

In October 2024 a group of twenty Probus members  and partners visited Buxton Opera House for a ‘Behind the Scene ‘ tour. The first item of notice was the vast difference between the front and rear of the House! All the glamour and glitter to  be seen by the audience at the front and the very basic changing rooms etc to the rear. There were two individual changing rooms (with showers!) plus several shared changing rooms which looked very tight for, say, a group of dancers, to change quickly! Add to that the number of stairs they would have to descend to the stage and you may appreciate any supporting casts!

Also, probably unnoticed by the audience, is the slight incline of the stage from the back down towards the front. This is to enable the whole audience to see the stage. It didn’t look much of a slope but it was certainly quite noticeable walking across it never mind trying to dance on stage!

It all added up to a very interesting trip and we concluded by having an excellent lunch at The Bulls Head, Monyash.
